New Calendar Item
Posted by email on February 25, 2010Hey Gang:
Those of you who follow the V2K calendar will notice a new item occurring weekly. The radio section of the Crew will be hosting a weekly radio net beginning next Wednesday. The purpose of the activity is to provide an opportunity for amateur radio operators within the Troop and Crew and the broader community to practice their radio skills, to pass announcements of interest to the Troop and Crew, including meetings, classes, exam opportunities, and to discuss technical aspects of radios and other relevant topics.
Here’s how it works:
1. Every Wednesday at 9 PM, radio licenses in the Crew and Troop will “meet” virtually on the Crew’s repeater located on the roof of the AEGON complex at 42nd Street. (This repeater operates on 443.000 Mhz and requires a 192.8 Hz tone.)
2. Each session will be hosted by one of the Crew’s licensees operating as “Net Control”
3. Radio licensees will be asked to check in with the net control operator and will be able to offer topics to discuss. Non licensees will be able to listen only.
Over time, we will become much more proficient in the use of our radios and will be prepared to use the net for important events and functions related to emergency service, etc. Watch for details soon on how you can become licensed to participate in this activity.
On a side note, the 1950’s vintage GRC-# radio has arrived and some of our operators had a chance to check it out last week. In somewhat of a surprise to all of us, the sucker actually worked!! Check out the pictures on the V2K Facebook page.
